Didja Notice?

The character of Shaw is probably named for Cliff Shaw (1922-1991), a member of the RAND Corporation who co-authored the Logic Theorist (considered to be the first artificial intelligence program), the IPL programming language, and the linked list data structure used in modern computing.

At 19:37 in the episode, a worker cleaning up the battle wreckage in Abel's garage is riding a machine that is sort of a forklift built onto a Segway!

Use of the new weapon designed by Shaw seems somewhat analogous to using the dark side of the Force in the Star Wars franchise; it brings out the aggressive, angry, threatening nature of those who wield it.
