The resistance raid against the Skynet uranium mine begins.
Didja Notice?
On page 5, a Detroit resistance safehouse is seen to be
located in a former Detroit Tool and Die building. Detroit
Tool and Die appears to be a fictitious business.
Elena's resistance unit appears to be carrying mostly AK-47
machine guns.
On page 7, Elena tells William they'll be out of there in
twenty mikes. "Mike" is military slang for "minute" (from
the NATO phonetic alphabet, M=Mike).
On page 11, Jackson tells Williams that the underground
tunnel leading to the automobile plant used to be used for
dumping untreated waste water into the creek until a union
whistleblower spilled it to the media and the EPA made the
factory shut it down and seal it off. The EPA is the U.S.
Environmental
Protection Agency.
When Elena gives the command to blow the tunnel wall so her
resistance squad can enter the factory, she says, "This is
Detroit, so let's light it up like they did on Devil's
Night." Devil's Night is the local term for the night or two
of vandalism and arson that occurred around Halloween in
Detroit, mostly in the 1970s-1990s, largely in the
inner-city neighborhoods; the hoodlum-like behavior has been
greatly curbed since then with the advent of Angel's Night during
these days, with citizen volunteers organized by the city
patrolling neighborhoods.
On page 17, C&C radios Elena to inform her the air bombers
ETA is 5 minutes. C&C stands for Command and Control. ETA is
Estimated Time of Arrival.
The resistance provides Bem's unit with a small yield
tactical nuclear bomb to take out Skynet's uranium mine in
Arlit. Tactical nuclear bombs are generally portable bombs
for use in the battlefield on relatively small targets.
On page 19, Bem tells Lysette everyone will evacuate from
Arlit south to Agades. Agades is an actual Nigerien city
about 240 km south of Arlit.
The giant dump truck used by Bem's unit to deliver the bomb
to the mine looks similar, though not exact, to the 400-ton
capacity
Caterpillar 797F.
