The "Previously" paragraphs on the inside front cover of this issue reveal that Mal's beat as sheriff is the Georgia Space Sector, i.e. the planets and moons of the sun Georgia.

Pages 1-11 take place roughly concurrently with the events of "New Sheriff in the 'Verse", following Zoe and her crew instead of Mal. Page 12 picks up from the end of "New Sheriff in the 'Verse".

On page 1, Wash reminds Zoe that Alliance forces recently had a warrant out for her, so her face will be fresh on their minds and she should hide in the back of the truck while he handles the checkpoint. This refers to the recent events that began in "Clipped Wings" and led to the so-called Second Unification War which "ended" in "The Outlaw Ma Reynolds".

On page 5, the Blue Sun officer says, "Ay de mi." This is Spanish for "Oh my."

Zoe now has a cargo shuttle she bought off of Lank Darling. She and the non-bandit side of Mal's former crew use the craft to return the bodies of dead Browncoats from the Second Unification War to their families on various worlds. Then they take the shuttle to try to find a safe place for the crew and others associated with them to make a quiet living without Alliance interference.
