On page 4, Zoe reveals that she is a former member of the
Dust Devils terrorist organization.
On page 8, Jayne asks, "Now, when are the purple-bellies
gettin' here?" "Purple-bellies" is a slang term for Alliance
soldiers, for the purplish armor they wear.
On page 21, Mal confronts Inara about his having seen Simon
leaving her shuttle while she was attending to business on
Pelorum, but she doesn't give him an answer as to what Simon
was doing there. Possibly this is related to the subtle
Inara subplot mentioned in the DVD commentaries of the
episodes "Government Goods"
and "Out of Gas" and her trip
to Ariel in the episode
"Ariel"
for a medical checkup. (It was also
revealed in the 10th anniversary reunion special
Firefly: Browncoats Unite, which aired on the Science
Channel on Sunday, November 11, 2012, that Inara does has a
terminal disease which would have been introduced into the
storyline if the series had continued. It may be that
here, Simon, as a doctor, has been let in on her medical
issue.)
In the very last panel of the story, we get a better look
than usual at the
strange extra contraption on the outer hull of the bridge
area of Serenity. The Official Serenity
Blueprints reveal it is a set of solar panels.
