An unidentified pair of dinosaurs, probably Iguanodon, appear at 1:19 on the DVD.

At 1:53 on the DVD, Tana appears to be standing on top of the water!

The Butlers recover their first aid kit from the swamp in this episode, apparently lost with their raft way back in "Arrival". (A couple years after this episode first aired, in Season 3 of Land of the Lost, a similar event occurred for the Marshalls in the episode "Survival Kit".)

Greg remarks that malaria spread through the cave dwellers village the previous month. Malaria is a disease spread by mosquitoes and caused by a protozoan which affects humans and other animals, causing severe fever and headache and can even lead to death in the most severe cases.

Kim implies it has been months since her family became stranded in the Valley of the Dinosaurs.

The cave dwellers refer to the large pack rat-like creatures as "zaba".

    The cave dwellers refer to a certain Iguanodon as Katara; the beast seems to be very protective of his territory in the valley. Katara is very large and depicted as walking bipedally at all times. At the time the series was produced, this was largely believed to be true of Iguanodon, but in modern times, scientists believe it was able to switch from bipedal to quadrupedal locomotion as needed. Additionally, the larger an Iguanodon got in adulthood, it probably spent more time walking quadrupedally.

    In most of the scenes, Katara is depicted with pointed teeth, whereas Iguanodon had the flat, square teeth of an herbivore; in one scene near the end of the episode, Katara's teeth are depicted correctly!

An unidentified species of pterosaur makes a snack of the clan's shellfish at 5:07 on the DVD.

A species of wild boar, possibly prehistoric, tosses the first aid kit around at 7:38 on the DVD.

Digger and Glump corner what appears to be a common gopher at 8:45 on the DVD.

Stopping the injured Lok from helping in the rescue of her parents, Katie refers to him as Tarzan. Tarzan, of course, is the world-famous character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs in 1912, a British boy who was lost in the African jungle and raised by apes.

Lok tells Katie he injured his foot on a spineshell. He is probably referring to a sea urchin, a small sea animal with a spherical, spiny shell. Some species have poisonous spines. (Image from gambassa.com.)

John remarks that the flash storm has turned the creek into a Niagara. Niagara is a reference to Niagara Falls at New York's Niagara Falls State Park.

While Tana helps Greg build a kite, he explains to her that Benjamin Franklin learned all about lightning from kites. Franklin (1705-1790) was one of the founding fathers of the United States and a poylmath. He is well-known for his proposed kite experiments during a lightning storm; it's not entirely accepted that he himself actually performed the experiment, but he may well have. Others certainly followed in his stead.

As another example of their anthropocentric comic relief, Digger and Glump cover their eyes when Katie gives Lok a shot of antibiotics with a needle.
