This is a 6-page, self-contained story in Countdown Holiday Special 1971.

Like several past UFO comic strips, Carlin's last name is spelled "Karlin" in this story.

The UFO that crashes in the Amazon turns out to have apparently been pilotless, with only a computer package installed as pilot and recorder, with the package taken by the primitive Amazonian indigenous tribe, before Foster and Jefferson take it back, largely to save the primitives from the inevitable programmed self-destruction of the device. This makes Straker appear as a something of an A-hole when Foster reports in on the last page and Straker says, "In a way it's a pity you didn't leave the machine in the Indian camp. If it was designed to relay information, it would have been interesting to see what the aliens made of the primitive ceremonies of those folk." Callous, much? Not to mention that SHADO would probably never learn what the aliens made of the information if they had received it!
