Kirk's showdown with
Sho'Tokh.
Story Summary
Subcommander Divash begins her attack against the Enterprise,
now under the command of
Commander Sho'Tokh. Sho'Tokh is enraged at her betrayal. Sulu
provides her with a way to cripple the Enterprise so as
not to destroy it and the crew.
Meanwhile, Spock comes to the rescue of the captured Kirk and
the rest, freeing them. Kirk plays a bluff that he's breached
the warp core and is going to blow up the
Enterprise to keep it out of
Sho'Tokh's hands. Sho'Tokh and a couple of his loyal men take a
shuttlecraft to escape, but Kirk is hiding in the back and stuns
the two followers and then finds himself in a knife battle with
Sho'Tokh. Kirk finally knocks him out and the zealous commander
and his followers are turned over to Divash to be returned to
Kronos for discipline by the high command.
The
Enterprise
crew mourns the loss of a number of crewmembers, including
Lt. Kai, at a burial in space.

Sho'Tokh says he was rejected from his own house as a baby
and raised himself in the battle-slums of the capital. The
capital of the Klingon Empire is First City on Kronos.
On pages 4 and 5,
Sho'Tokh calls Divash a dishonorable lingta' and a
forshak. The lingta' is an animal native
to Kronos; they are known to be used as food by the
Klingons. Forshak is a foul-smelling substance, as
witnessed by Worf's exclamation in the ST: DS9 episode
"Looking for par'Mach in All the Wrong Places", that his
fellow Klingon, Thopok, said smelled like a pile of rotting
forshak.
On page 5,
Sho'Tokh shouts, "Baqa'!" as he kicks over the
captain's chair on the Enterprise bridge in anger
over Divash's betrayal. Baqa' seems to be a Klingon
swear word; Captain Picard used it with his Klingon allies in
the ST: TNG episode "The Mind's Eye".
On page 13, Kirk tells Scotty he doesn't want to be the
first Starfleet captain to blow up his own ship. Ironically,
in the original timeline, Kirk did blow up the
Enterprise in the 1984 film, Star Trek: The Search
for Spock.
Unanswered Questions
At the beginning of the issue,
Sho'Tokh claims that he was rejected from his own house as a
freak when he was a baby. Why was he considered a
freak? The only thing I can see in the art is that he is
colored with more pale skin than the average Klingon.
