Page 2 reveals that the Enterprise has currently traveled farther from Earth than any human has before.

 

This issue introduces Irina Galliulin, a Russian Starfleet officer who met Chekov briefly at Starfleet Academy. In the original timeline, Chekov and Irina were involved in a romantic relationship during their time at the Academy before she dropped out, as told in the original series episode "The Way to Eden".

 

Chekov is referred to as a lieutenant throughout this issue. Previously, he was an ensign. When did he get the promotion?

 

Irina reintroduces herself to Chekov and tells him she came aboard after the attack on San Francisco (in Into Darkness). But the past several issues of the comic have had stardates indicating 6 months-2 years after the events of Into Darkness, and "Behemoth" Part 2 gives a stardate of 2262.18, almost 3 years into the 5-year mission. So why did Irina wait so long to introduce herself to him?

 

On pages 4-5, Kirk is finally, though cautiously, putting the moves on Carol Marcus. Again, two years after her assignment to the ship!

 

Dr. Marcus tells Kirk that besides weapons systems, her sub-specialty is xeno-biology, the genesis and evolution of alien species. The two disciplines go towards explaining her (and her son's) invention of the Genesis torpedo in the original timeline in Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, possibly also hinting at a revisiting of that storyline in some form in the new timeline.

 

On page 7, panel 2, the reversed text on Uhura's clear-display says "Engineering 01". Shouldn't it be "Communications"?

 

Meeting the injured insectoid alien, Dr. McCoy remarks, "...he's obviously not from Mississippi, but the physiology isn't so unusual that I can't try to help him." McCoy is from Mississippi.

 

In its introductory two-page splash, the gigantic star-eater organism is so large you can almost miss the tiny Enterprise and alien ship in the bottom right corner! A cool image.
