"Those Left Behind" Part 1
Serenity: Those Left Behind #1 (Dark Horse)
Story
by Joss Whedon and Brett Matthews
Script by Brett Matthews
Art by Will Conrad

A job goes wrong on a border world, forcing a hasty escape; Inara prepares to leave Serenity for good.

Read a summary of the full 3-issue series at the Firefly and Serenity Database

Didja Know?

The Chinese characters in the Serenity logo on the cover of all three issues of the mini-series spell out "Ninjing", which means "Serenity".

Didja Notice?

The hovermobile parked outside the church on page 1 has some similarities to the one used by Rance Burgess in "Heart of Gold", though it does not appear to be quite the same model.

Ott has Chinese characters tattooed on his face. They are the Chinese words for: propriety, righteousness, courageous, benevolence, ambition, true.

On page 5, Mal reveals that the gun he carries is the same one he used in the war.

The small spaceship seen in the background on page 21, panel 1, appears to be the same one flown by the blue hand men in "Ariel".

Likewise, the blue hand men revealed on page 22 appear to be the same two agents who appeared in "Ariel".

In the lettercol of Serenity: Better Days #3, a letter writer asks how the Blue Gloves in this story knew that River was on Serenity? No answer is given by the editor. Maybe they got the information from the bounty hunter Jubal Early some time before or after the events of "Objects in Space".
