On page 2, Washbot reveals that he's learned from his study of
the plunderers' computer servers that the portals linking the
'Verse to Earth-That-Was worked through "connected quantum
particles in paired portals." He seems to be describing the
phenomenon of quantum entanglement, in which
quantum particles that, once the spin of a quantum particle is
entangled with another, remain entangled even over immense
distances (one particle will react to a change by the other
particle).
On page 6, Mal comments on a species
of flower on Earth-That-Was he finds growing in the woods, that
they had them on Shadow when he was a kid, but they were rare,
they just didn't want to grow there.
It was revealed in "Our
Mrs. Reynolds" that
Shadow is the homeworld of Malcolm Reynolds.
As she considers staying behind on
Earth-That-Was, Zoe remarks to Lank
how they previously made a desert bloom the last time they had a
home, so imagine what they can do here. Her previous home was
Haven with Shepherd Book and the other refugees as seen in
"Blue Sun Rising" Part 7.
Zoe considers staying behind on Earth-That-Was at the site of
the former Washburne Industries near Minneapolis.
